Continuing the saga of StopBadware’s neighborhood watch crusade to protect the internet from badware and injustice…
In 2007 StopBadware worked with a variety of companies to raise awareness privacy and security concerns including “Facebook”:http://techdailydose.nationaljournal.com/2007/12/stopbadware_still_has_question.php, and encouraged them to adopt safer practices. It also publicized concerns about “AOL 9.0″:http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060828-7606.html, which have been alleviated by later editions of the software.
In conjunction with Google, StopBadware continued to develop its notification system to “disseminate warnings”:http://pcworld.about.com/od/google/Google-sharpens-malware-alerts.htm about potentially dangerous websites to webmasters and users. Working together, the coalition members pursued “drive-by-downloads”:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6645895.stm which Google had located on the internet in surprisingly high quantities.
StopBadware also released information on companies “harboring”:http://blog.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2007/05/cyber_crooks_hijack_activities_1.html and “distributing”:http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,137217/article.html badware.
StopBadware also released “Trends in Badware 2007″:http://www.stopbadware.org/home/consumerreport: What Internet Users Need to Know, which “shed light”:http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071010-report-many-evils-lurk-in-the-dark-corners-of-the-internet.html on a wide variety of internet security topics.
